12 CHALLENGES

Story

No company. Just one person who wanted to stick with it.

I'm Yannes, a solo developer. No company, no team, no investors, just me and an app I use myself every day. I simply enjoy improving things about myself, and of all the methods I've tried for that, none stuck with me as reliably as this one.

It all started on paper: circles on a calendar, one per day, following the old “don't break the chain” idea. Miss no circle, or the chain starts over. 30 days for one goal, nothing more.

Over the years that turned into a whole series of month-long challenges: learning CAD in 30 days, finally using that dusty pull-up bar every day for a month, reading faster with a well-known method, drawing one product sketch a day with pencil and paper. 12 Challenges itself grew out of exactly one of those month-long challenges.

The nice thing about the method: you only ever deal with the one task that's currently due. Manageable, with an end date, and clearly visible. And it's fine if a day goes wrong. Completely fine, as long as it's back on track by the day after next at the latest.
